The DPD Coventry Blaze took two points on the road in Fife, making it three wins from three games in the Motorpoint Elite League with a 1-3 victory.
It was tied after one period at Fife Ice Arena, with the Blaze having the better of the early chances. They went ahead with 13:04 played when Flyers goalie Dominik Groh played the puck around the boards, but it was picked up by the Blaze.
Quick puck movement saw it worked to William Boysen, who fired a wrist shot into Groh’s top corner.
Fife began creating chances while Márkó Csollák sat in the box for slashing and, after a couple of opportunities, they levelled. Chase Dubois’ original shot was blocked in front, but after a scramble, he got to his own rebound and put the puck in at 15:43.
With Connor Russell in the box for cross-checking, Fife were caught the other way, resulting in Mike Petizian giving away a penalty shot. Boysen expertly finished the chance to restore the Blaze’s lead 3:50 into the second period.
Just under 10 minutes later, it got even better for the visitors. As the Flyers tried to break out of their zone, the puck rebounded off Garet Hunt’s skate and fell straight to Jaxson Ezman. He played it to Brett Perlini before getting it back and putting the Blaze two goals ahead.
The Flyers tried to force their way back into the game but couldn’t create anything meaningful in front of Sisu Heikkeri who ended the night with 23 saves, continuing his excellent start to the season. The Blaze were highly effective in defence, shutting Fife down while creating a couple of chances of their own to extend their advantage.
Fife pulled Groh with 1:59 remaining, but they couldn’t find another goal as the Blaze secured an impressive road win and made it three victories from three to start the Motorpoint Elite League season.
